VW T25 DG ENGINE HELP DESPERATELY WANTED

Hello I have a C reg T25 that I have owned for three years.

This week the engine has developed a tapping noise which I think is coming from the right hand side of the engine. It sounds like metal is banging but it could be air?

My dad said the tappets may need setting but according to the manual they can't be. Does anyone know what this sound may be and how I would fix it.

The camper has had new spark plugs fitted today, I am changing oil tomorrow.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

if your van has been stood for a while.or even a few days.it could be a tappet/tappets has drained.a good 5 mile run should cure it.its a common problem with these vans.oh and welcome to the club..

tappets are hydraulic so need no adjustment. as said if van been standing for longer than 1-2 days thehn go for a drive. really common oil draining from tappet.

Just be sure that when you change the oil you are not tempted to refill with a product that is too thin. These engines don't like anything thinner than 15W40 so 10W/40, 10W/30, 5W/30 etc is not recommended.
Go for 15W40 / 15W50 or 20W50 at a push.
