Or a couple of lengths of copper pipe (or similar) slipped over...
Bricky used to do them IIRC...

Fantastic - just about to investigate where to get these!

Emma I bought some from fleabay (not marketed as super strong) but they'll hold the tailgate up with a bmx on it - the problem I have is shutting it when the bike's not on it!

I bought a pair of non heavy duty ones and they worked fine for about a year or two but now it depends on the weather funny enough.
must be something to do with the heat and viscocity of the oil inside.

I've got an old walking pole that i use as a prop.

Theres a handy little shelf at the top on the back of the westy that I keep my poles in so they are always to hand.

one of these days ill get round to replacing the struts

I recently got these ones very strong and now have a door with no glass it flies up but defo strong enough for bikes (i would have thought!)
