Hi,

CU engine twin solex carbs

Starts fine when engine is cold but not so good at starting when warm. Looked in top of carbs after engine run for 5 mins and one was dry but with wisps of smoke and the other was dripping petrol into the bottom of the carb.

Any advice? i am not mechanically minded though!

Would love to have them rebuilt but cant afford so a temp fix would be good

I can have the same problem with mine after a long run. The engine compartment gets quite warm under that lid and often, after turning off the engine, the fuel in the carbs float bowl can boil and overflow down the throat of the carb.
I am going to put in some spacers between the carbs and the manifold to prevent heat creeping up into them.
As for starting when it's like this... Push accellerator pedal to the floor, keep it there, don't pump it, pumping it will make starting worse and flood the engine. Turn over engine until it begins to fire and all should be well. Should only have to turn over for about 5 seconds at most to start.
