Afternoon,

Just put a 1Y diesel into my '86 DoKa yesterday but need a little bit of help...

Do I need to run the water pump backwards? The dash temperature gauge works, but takes it's sweet time about it...

Any help greatly appreciated... :D

Thanks, Adam

I am guessing that 1.9 would take longer to warm up.

Yeah.. no.. sorry...

What I mean is, the DoKa started off life with the 1.6D, which was then changed to a 1.9 (1Y). This engine was a pig to start and we've had a steep learning curve with it, having only had her 7 months. Then it ran on it's own oil, so we've gone ahead and changed the engine for another 1Y.

So, on the previous engine, the water pump was running backwards, with the belt on the 'other side' of the pulley. What I need to know is, is it supposed to be set up like this - i.e. as it's been removed from a front wheel drive car, now on a rwd and mounted t'other way around, or was it like that cos the guy that fitted it was a numpty?! (He also didn't fit a spigot bearing, too...)

Thanks,

Adam

Looking at the engine from the front ie pulleys end, all the pulleys rotate clockwise including the waterpump. Everything engine wise will be the same it is the gearbox that does the forward or rear mounted bit. Think about it. if you used the engine and gearbox from a front mounted car and put it in your rear mounted van you would have one forward gear and four or five reverse !

Oh yeah E D I T, E D I T, When I changed mine from a 1.7D to a 1Y I had to use the original waterpump as the hose connections were different but I suppose that depends on what model motor your engine came from. I think I understand your comment on the numpty fitting the pump arms about face BUT the pump is not a stand alone as surely it bolts straight onto the engine/waterjacket.
