stuttering

just been away for the week up to kent

van drove lovely on the way up there, when we set off a yesterday the van kept seeming to stutter, thats really the only way i can describe it

it was like for a slit second the power disappeared, at first i thought it was the road surface but then hit some nice newly laid tarmac and it still kept happening, it was happening at different speeds in different gears but when i put my foot down on the motorway it would stop say above 70mph but then restart when i dropped to say 60mph

after about an hour and a half it seemed to stop and i didnt really notice it again the rest of the way home

i did have a new fueltank fitted the week before we went as it had rusted and burst, could it be some rust particles in the fuel (the mechanic kept all the petrol from the old tank as it has been full) and as the fuel level dropped they got sucked up and then all worked through??? or is it a warning sign of further troubles to come

i have to say that other than the stuttering at the beginning of the journey the van drove beautifully and after an hour traffic jam in very hot temps i was as proud as punch when she hadnt overheated and there were at least 5 or 6 modern cars on the side of the road with bonnets open colling down!

Hi,

You may want to change the fuel filter....Located on the chassis rail by the tank. If its a clear one....you might see particles floating around in it.

The filter should catch anything thats nasty in the tank. Another thing you might want to check is that the garage has not fitted the wrong size fuel lines....a common oversight on these vans/campers. I forget the correct size of pipe....its in the WIKI anyway.

Glenn. :D
