Refitting Nightmare!

We have spent all day removing a 1.6 turbo Diesel from our T25, which finally came out from underneath. Now the new engine is in place, hanging by the winch, but it won't fit back in! We're bringing it up from underneath, as before, but it just won't fit in! Can anyone offer any advice?

Hi Sarah, I think you should provide a little more information. is the new engine a direct replacement for the one taken out? did you compare them side by side, manifolds, mountings etc.
have you mated it to the g'box ok? what part is catching

Are you talking about mating the engine to the gearbox? that the engine won't fully engage? have you properly aligned the clutch centre plate before tightening the clutch cover?

If its that, and its centered, you sometimes need to jiggle crank rotation to line it up. Mind you, I've removed and reffited a couple of hundred engines in v-dubs and even when things look spot on, you can wrestle with an engine or gearbox for an hour or more before suddenly it just slots in.

That's exactly what's happened- a little wrestling and an unexpected clunk- and it was in! Thanks- we're sorted now!

No worries. Plagues bug owners too. Trick is not to lose your rag with it. Sometimes five minutes away, a mug of tea and the next time it slots in with ease. Frustrating though
