I've been trying to track down a rear brake cyclinder for a 1988 2.1 inj caravelle and the 4 that have been sent are too small.

the ones which have been sent have a length of 46mm yet the old one is 56mm.

They say that there is only one part listed for 1988 model, so could anyone shed any light on what may of happened apart from someone using an incorrect part in the past.

could it be because it's got a bigger lump and it used to be a minibus mean that it had uprated brakes? it is servo assisted if that makes any difference?

VW, GSF and numerous motor spares outfits. When returniong them they all say that they are a common unit, but why are mine different?

when my garage guy spoke to VW commercials they seem to remember that the 2.1's might of had bigger units as they had the bigger lump and had to stop upto 8 people, but surley a panelvan rammed with bags of cement weighed more?!?!?!

If after the last part has been delivered and it turns out too small, i'm just gonna get my mechanic to weld packers to the shoes to take up the gap. there's only 7mm difference in the cylinder bodies and as it's not been hooked upto the hydraulics yet could be even smaller difference between the pistons. It's difficult as i'm writing this second hand, as it's in getting fixed for it's MOT and it's the last thing on a pretty big "to do" list.

You know what these buses are like, someone may have made something else fit, which is throwing me off the scent.
