hi all
on the way back from plymfest had a stone chip/crack mot next week but should pass.
i have two problems one its a whitestar with the arial on the window, do they still do them and will the insurance cover it?
plus i have water in the foot wells, so will need to repair. has any one managed to get the windscreen guys to come back a few days later to fit the windscreen after taking the old one out?

Removing windscreen and refitting isn't a real hassle if you cut out old seal and fit a new one. Nowhere near as hard as a type2 thats for sure - one man job. Don't recommend JK seals though....

Screen was recently available from VW for not a lot of money.
No need to cut the rubber! FFS don't cut the rubber! That's a retards way of removing a screen.
The rubber that is in there will fit a damn site better than an aftermarket one.

This is why DIY not a bad idea. Theres a guy on here selling (from time to time) really nice new tinted screens with blue sunstrip built in for £60. Seal around £25 - time to fit, about ten minutes. Fitted Chickenkoop's last week. Old one comes out with a Stanley knife. Don't agree on not cutting rubber. If its 20 odd years old and you have a genuine seal ready, cut it out - old one no good to man nor beast. If you can only get cheap copy rubbers then I'd agree, resuse original. The seal I got from VW emporium was genuine article and with chrome insert. Fitted perfectly. Old seal was way past its sellby date.

Blue rope (B&Q) pushed under rubber with a screw driver along internal sides and top of seal. Then go back around pushing it almost in line with the seam, screen will move forward and you can then push it out.

Why's that then? I'd say that they should replace like with like, if you had a brand new car with auto wipers/heated element/aerial/bonded in they would still only charge you the £70 or so excess to change it.

very rare that the original oem rubber will deteriorate , so always try to use your old one, dosent take muck to remove rubber and screen together , or the fact the screen is U/S any way
if you demand like for like and they cant get one then they may just write your van off!

nasty and scary prospect.........but.............from a thread on the brickyard........
After phoning round for a few quotes, i managed to get it from Auto Windscreens for £199 fitted.
It is basically the screen with the green/blue Top tint, but with the addition of a built in antenna.
As for the amplifier, i'll worry about that when I can actually connect something to it!

good luck getting one anyway
