Hi all
i have my mot this week and have just thought of a problem.
I have a whitestar with a 1.9 n/a diesel.
i bought it on Polish plates and sent of for a new reg doc. on the polish documents it said it was first registered in 1994.
I thought this might be a problem so wrote a letter stating proper age from vin number.
no luck so they have stated 94 as the year and given me a l plate van.
from research 93 on is when cats are fitted.
what do i do, previous mot was on polish plates.
help is needed jt

Pretty sure if the maufacturer hadn't fitted a cat when it was new then it doesn't need one.
I used to own a 1994 Nissan 200sx S13 and even though it should have had one because of its age it wasn't produced with one. It was basically old stock motors they were shifting at the end of the models run and if I'm remembering correctly the way they got through the loophole was not to issue it with certin emmisions details on the cars import specs, therefore it was the non-cat test it had to pass.

No not for diesel test for that age of motor. most cats on diesels were fitted from around 2000> but the limits are the same for with or without anyway so your van only needs to meet smoke test limits of 2.5 for non turbo and 3.0 for turbo. will be fine.

Send me the chassis number and I will tell you the month it was made.
this won't be enough to satisfy DVLA though.
What you need is a birth certificate from VW, which can be obtained from the VW museum in Wolfsburg, or you can ring VW customer services in the UK and ask them to connect you to the "Homolgation Dept"
For a fee (about £35 last time I did it) they will issue you with a "Heritage letter" to give you a concrete date of manufacture.
I doubt it was made in 1994!
I had a similar thing recently with a Polish registered van, the van was much earlier that originaly thought to be.
