I have a 1990 Hitop Westfalia and I was wondering if a standard wheel jack was up to the job, taking into consideration of the extra weight with water, gas, beer, logs, etc. Does anyone know what they had originally. I am carrying around a 2 tonne trolley jack. It this over the top, should I get a standard T25 Jack and stop mincing ?

if you have side planks then a standard jack wont fit.you would need one with an extended arm.(not easy to get hold of) im not keen on the vw jack anyhow.i carry a small trolley jack myself.

Out of interest, I was looking at getting a trolley jack, as I have to keep borrowing jacks right now. I was just wondering about whether the smaller 2-ton ones were able to lift the van up high enough.

Anyone have any recommendations on a decent jack that's a decent weight, but lifts the van up high enough?

i have one of these in the van.mines in a plastic case though.i would only use it for wheel changing.i also carry a couple of pieces of hardwood to use for that extra height should i need it.

The problem I had with a trolley jack was storing it as my rear wardrobe has a gas tank in it and underneath the bench seat is full of stuff. Plus it never seemed to jack high enough to get the wheels off the ground.

I went back to using the original jack which has been fine for quick wheel changes. I agree that the original jack doesn't look too robust but I just make sure I've got everything handy and ready so I can whip the wheel off and put the spare on straight away
