hi,

long story short, but i bought a t3 1.7 diesel with the intent on stripping
the drivetrain from it for a project van i was looking to buy without
engine etc..

thats fallen throught, (learnt my lesson and wont buy stuff till i got it all!)

anyhoo, i'll keep the van, however its got a blown head gasket. used all
the water in the expansion tank over 20 miles! and oil comes out the
dipstik tube hole.. so i presume at least its a head gasket.

the questions are.. is the 1600D engine same head gasket as 1.7
also anyone got a copy of the bently pdf so i can do the job??

if not ill buy a haynes book o lies..
cheers guys

looking at the JK website the 1.7 is not the same as the 1.6d/td.
1.7d £29.50 from JK's.( OUCH)
You could try GSF, usually cheaper......

all the 1.5d 1.6d, 1.6td and 1.7d headgaskets will fit but before ordering check the amout of notches or holes on the gasket as this determines the thickness of the gasket and thus the compression ratio

the gasket for a 1.6d golf engine is slightly different to the T25 - I have the oil all over my engine bay to prove it!

Make sure you have the engine number when you get the gasket to be sure.
