Cold Start Fine- Hot Starting is slow 1.9DG

Hi All,

I have a 1984 1.9 DG and it starts first pick when cold/cool.
However when it is hot and i go to start it, i need to crank it over a good bit to get her to fire, no smoke or anything.

i am not that familiar with the effect of the coolant sensors and if they even have an air flow meter but everything else seems to be working fine.

would a compression test be the most intelligent approach to the problem??

has anyone else had similar experiences?

thanks

Hi, seeing as no-one else has bitten...

if its not injection, warm start requires the accelerator to be foot flat to the floor. This oftern helps starting!

starter motor bush and or starter solenoid worn contacts inside, usual failure mode of starter

My hot starting problem was down to a defunct temp coolant sensor, but mine is an FI model

unless you have the tools you can't strip the solenoid and clean the contacts which are part of the cap, take it to a alternator/starter refurbisher and insist on a new cap and insist on the correct long stud version for our vehicle, they probably won't have them on the shelf but they can easily get them from their normal supplier
