T25 TD Now the summer is here!! Can't get my heater to turn off completely. Is it a complete stripdown of intrument panel? or is there a easy method? Nev.

I had that problem the other way round last winter! Turned out the cable was broken on one side, causing the flap to not open, and on the other side the flap itself was stuck. Could be a similar problem with yours? Worth having a look at the cables underneath, and WD40-ing the flaps I would have thought.

Don't know if it's the same for diesels, but my old petrol camper had the same problem. Turned out to be the heater valve had worn and didn't completely shut off the flow of hot water to the heater matrix. Bought a new valve off a VW commercial dealer, bit pricey for what it is but won't break the bank. It's located under the van cab area behind the spare wheel thingy. Lot easier to fit with two people (one in the cab, one getting wet under the van) as it's a bit of a fiddle. Close the old valve as best you can and detach one end holding your finger over the pipe to prevent water peeing out and air getting in, fit the new (closed) valve onto the open pipe, open valve slightly to allow air out and close valve. Remove old valve from other pipe, closing off with finger etc and fit onto other end of new valve. All that's left then is the nightmare of re-attaching the heater cable.......

Same for diesels - £9.50 from gsf - they are common to a lot of vws. I replaced mine from under the gearstick gaiter completely - no need to get under the van!
Sometimes the cable can get a kink in it due to ham-"interfered with" operator error - just take the panel off and straighten the cable.

mine does not always switch off properly. so in the summer i crawl under the front of the van and just move the valve with my fingers to close it off more (2 min job). it never shuts it off completely but does make a difference.

Sounds like you might have a kink in the control cable
