Anyone know anything about this stuff - is it any good? GSF are replacing the Fuchs stuff with it, and its all my local branch have now...

Well, it's been around for years but I've always considered it to be a budget brand, certainly not as good as the FUCHS it replaces. Having said this it's specification is still going to easily exceed VW's spec circa 80-90.

What spec oil should be used for the 1.6TD (JX) engine? Recommended suppliers/brands would be good too?

Sorry for hijacking this post :-)

Volkswagens own QUANTUM oil....available from Vw or Brickwerks.
Red for Diesel engines....Blue for petrol engines.

 The image was scanned from leaflet I picked up at VW commercial sales Nottingham when VW was having a bulk oil promotion (about 6 months ago) I haven't bought any since so I can't confirm what you are saying.

rather bold statemant, has fusch a better API rating or something? if you choose the oil based upoon the API rating which you should then this brand will still meet the spec of any outher brand, and it's made inthe UK which is always agood thing in my book.

I bought some in the end - it's only for top-ups anyway, and it'll be getting an oil change before too long so I'm sure it'll be fine...

I don't think there is such a thing as crap oil anymore.
That is now you can't buy "Five Flags"

I have bought ( I think) the last barrell of 15w40 VW had, so I'm told.
Once it's gone I think I will be swapping to Millers.
