has anyone taken one of these camping with them? we have had one bought by the in laws "for our holiday" just wondered of anyone had ever used one? it seems a good idea bob stuff in it go out for the day and hey presto tea ready when we get back.
are they safe?

I would say they are a good idea (as long as you are running off a hook up).

No reason why they should not be safe, they are designed to be used "unattended".

We use one at home but never took it camping. It's quite a heavy piece of kit and takes up a bit of space.

It's very low power too, so cheap to run.

I would think it's ideal for days when you are out all day and want to get back to the van to a cooked meal. Most meals take between 6 and 8 hours to cook. Some people will have issues with cooking smells in the van, which could arise.

You couldn't cook with it on the move I think, unless you can find a 12V version with a non-spill lid arrangement. So your van is confined to base while cooking.

We have a small cheap un from Tesco works brilliant in the van on hook up! wang everything in in the morning and dinner is ready when ever you want it !

thats the plan james...we have hook up so thought it would be a good idea, have all day on the beach (weather permitting) then get back to tea cooked!!!!

Just make sure its on level ground, we put it on a tray just incase any spills etc but there great to come back open the door and lush food smells wafts out!

Got a little one for a tenner from amazon and it's great for camping, and like James said it's amazing to get back to the amazing food smells at the end of the day.

yep small slow cooker for us too.

We use a slow cooker at home but haven't used it in the van yet. They are great and we cook lots of lovely things, lamb with mushroom in red wine is a fav For those that have not used one before just remember that it is recommended to cook things through first before putting them into the slow cooker and stock needs to be hot too.

We bung it in raw as raw can be and never had a problem! Never heard that before?

Good idea, just bunged it in the camper for bashtie. Opens up a whole new world of cooking, thanks for that

The reason for this is because the food needs to reach 140 degrees as quickly as possible otherwise you're in the danger zone of bacteria growing real quick. We used them alot at the residential home that I managed previously so we always had to be very careful.

the 3.5 litre ones can be up to 250w the 1 litre ones around 90w
