think I've pulled out the engine mount bolts from the engine this weekend, problem was that the aaz was rusted on that side bloody british salted roads so the mounting holes were corroded we re tapped them but that and a few bangs on the course must have pulled them out my sump seems to be resting on the sumpguard and making a bit of a racket never mind the vibrations, anyhow will have a good look tomorrow when I'm off work was thinking might be worthwhile putting a piece of rubber type strip between the sump and the guard to prevent this happening again and act as some type of support for the engine has this ever happened to anyone else? sorry for lack of punctuation but its 4.30am and have only managed about 16 hours sleep since sat

Same has happened to me, on the RHS of the engine as you look at the, the bolts had sheared and the engine was hanging down. Funnily enough, also saw the same on a syncro in Senegal, they had driven 1,000 miles like it tied up with a piece of nylon to get them through

Fairly easy fix, moved a few things out the way, borrowed a bolt extractor from Jed




used a bar and some twine to wind the engine back up into place and fixed it all up.

Arrrrgh! "Eezee-outs" are the devil's work! Don't use them EVER. EVER.
We do a good trade in sparking out snapped eezeeouts that the misguided have "applied" in desperation. They only work safely if a bolt has been "wiped" off sideways i.e. truly sheared off or snapped in tension.
If a bolt/stud has been twisted off, that means that the force needed to wring it off was less than the force to release the threads. A EZ will not help in this case, as it applies a wedging action to gain purchase in the drilled hole, making things worse...
You have been warned. I hate to see folks suffer needlessly and that's coming from a precision engineer!

Jebiga - sounds like you need a helicoil/wire thread insert kit.

Drill it out and hammer some old torx bits in, I have a loads of old halfords tools for this very purpose, works well for me.

Also, I think those mounting bolts are 10.9 rather than the usual 8.8

Well said that man!

Jakes had sheared off, and we knew they would be effective due to us winding the bolt further on with the drill bit. Felt well smug when he got it out as it looked to be an engine out job to us at the time.

Yep, the sheared bolt had started to move with the drilling. So was an easy first choice option..

Don't think they r sheared at least hope not more pulled out, but will see later when I have a few hours sleep. Have never managed to get anything out with those extractors and tried all sorts of makes complete wast of money if you ask me and if they break can cause more problems

Well I shall continue to bodge things with my non-engineering head. I will also slip on a pair of these whenever I work on the van, will go with my hat

Thing is although it usually takes us three times longer to do by not paying someone and giving most things ago between us, at least we are learning something. Plus its quite a laugh...
