AC heater flaps open = cooler running?

Hello all,

I've tied my flaps open  , so get a constant stream of hot air in cab. Now summer's here, the idea is to disconnct the hose mid-chassis somewhere and direct the hot air out sideways - I'm thinking this will somehow help keep a lid on the engine temp.

Am I barking up the wrong tree given the heat exchanger system?

Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks Alex

Won't really keep the engine cooler as the heat is taken away from the exhaust after it has left the engine but the original design kept the air flowing over the heat exchangers and out through the air control flaps to open air when set to 'no hot air' in the cab. Will help to keep the exhaust system cooler though because of this.

thanks for that.
so...the fan pushes through hottest air at one speed (dependent on engine speed) all the time regardless and the flaps either vent it all out when fully closed or let a portion of it through when open, all when fully open?

Not much point to my brilliant idea then!

Yep, spot on! :D
Not a bad idea but VW already thought of it!
