Well I am pleased to say that the van has just completed its first long run to York and back (approx 300 miles) without a single hitch.

I averaged about 27 mpg (economy? who cares) But I wasn't hanging about.

The temperature ran slightly up on normal until the cooling system got up to temperature and then settled down a touch.

And lastly I'd like to apologise to the astra that tried to overtake me on the way down and the golf that tried to overtake me on the way back.

Nice one it's nice to know that as I am hacking my loom to pieces that one scooby van is pleasing its owner.
I wouldn't apologies , just laugh my A*S off.

If you are using the VW gauge with the scooby sensor it is reckoned to read a bit high the guys on the Vanagon list use a resistor in line to "adjust" the reading. (think its about 27 ohms)

I felt a bit sorry for the other cars.

I've had a 33 ohm resistor in and now I'm running with a 36, it brings it down to just about the middle.

When the engine begins its heating cycle it only lets a little bit of water past the thermostat until all of the fluid is up to operating temperature, so it appears that the engine is running a little bit hotter than normal until the thermostat is fully open and is being cooled properly by the radiator.

I initially thought that the cooling system was not working 100% but now I'm not so concerned.

How goes it with the loom?
