Hi there,

I think our van (T25 1986 1.9 petrol) has developed an electrical issue. If you turn the lights on without the ignition turned on the dash lights will light up, however, if you start the van then turn the lights on the dash lights will not light up, on dipped beam the blue main beam light is alight and when you put full beam lights on the blue light goes out and the little red oil light start to flicker, if you adjust the brightness knob it will light up fully. On going from full beam to dipped beam the blue light comes on again and the other little red light that flashes when you turn the ignition on starts to flash for a few seconds

I have changed the fridge (did'nt need too!! another story) and the old one had wiring going to the gas ignition switch but this one does not need it so I just isolated the wires with a block connector.

Any body have any ideas??

Paying particular attention to the 'crown' earth on the A pillar where a good proportion of earth lead spades connect to a comunal earthing point.

Thanks lads. I unscrewed the fuse board today to look at the wiring behind and to inspect the 2 'earth crowns'. I found one brown wire that's not connected to anything, does not look like it has been either and one black wire.

Any ideas??

The brown wire will be an earth. Does it have a spade connector on the end? If it does, reconnect to the earth crown and see what you got. Switch something on that is giving you a false reading and 'wiggle' the earth connections gently to see if the fault clears. If it does, clean that connection and reconnect.
These spade connectors are getting old and brittle now and most should be replaced if possible with new crimp connecions to ensure a good connection.
Black leads are usually a switched supply from ignition.

The brown wire will not reach the 'earth crowns' which leads me to think that it may or may not have been connected elswhere. I will give all the other earths a 'wiggle' to see if anything happens.
