Replacing Ignition Switch

I'm really hoping someone has the magic answer as I'm tearing my bloody hair out! I'm trying to replace the ignition switch... With the steering wheel and all the plastic from around the column off. The indicator and wiper switch/stalks off. I'm stuck! I have replacement in hand and broken part in site but can I get the switch out of the lock barrel assembly, can I hell!
I've removed the hex bolt that locks the steering lock in place around the column but I just can't work out how to get the lock off the column. :x

The only reference I could find was from Red Westie which said you simply slide it up and off the column, no beans on that front! The only thing I havn't tryed so far is beating it off with a hammer (which is getting ever closer as a solution!)

As far as I can work out once the barrel/lock assembly is off the column there is a screw on the inside that holds the switch inplace (is this right?) but I need the assembly off first!

So please anyone!!! A picture would be really helpfull.
Thanks in advance/frustration

Iv'e just done this as follows - Steering wheel off, 3 screws and controls off, then slide off black spacer (with the aid of screwdriver), then slide off lock housing, making sure the key is turned to release steering lock. May take a nudge with screwdriver and hammer (gently does it)

Hope this helps

Ayup....the magic key lol....retracts the steering lock to enable barrel housing removal.

:ok

Cheers guys, I was trying with the key turned (Granted not the first time, then I realised!). Maybe I wasn't giving it enough grunt. I shall try to coax it of with the aid of a mechanical adjusting stick tomorrow night.
:ok
