Howdy All,
Been absent for a while due to masses of work! However will soon be free again. Remember at Bustypes Rich and Kev were on about alternator bushes that you can change to give abit more juice from alternator. Had a quick look on the usual websites, but can't see em. Anyone know about these?
Its the standard 2 litre CU alternator btw.
Cheers
Rockhead

Well I posted a link to a place in Birmingham that were selling the the regulator brush pack for about a tenner posted...only thing is I think Kev had some issues with his but as far as I am aware others including myself have them fitted and working fine (over 18months for mine)...your choice.
They are 'pattern parts' as you would expect for under a tenner but supply for these things is getting scarce and I don't think you are going to have many choices of brand and supplier.
Contact details for the regulator/bush pack supplier:
Vehicle Electrics (Birmingham Ltd) The aftermarket number for MY alternator (yours may be different) was VERG 1009 but they have a list to cross reference your particular aternator number against so you can order the correct item. Mine was £9.70 incl post.

These are the same for the Golf/Jetta/Scirroco so if the lesser-spotted numpty behind the counter doesn't know what a Trampspotter is ask for a MkII Golf one

I just ordered one from that company in Birmingham, however I went down the nice and simple e-bay buy it now option and paid with paypal. Link is

Well I fitted my new bushes and it's made a hell of a difference. It's leaped from 13.5 volts to 14.2 volts.
It also seems to start a bit easier now too, presumably as there is a bit more juice in the battery to start things off.
Make sure your alternator belt is tensioned properly, before I thought about new bushes I adjusted mine and it gave me an extra 0.3 volts and stopped the squealing.
