Gearbox oil leak and gear lever stuck

Hi All,
First problem with the camper! Its a 1984 T25. I noticed some oil underneath the engine before setting off on last journey, I could not locate the leak as it appeared to cover the entire underside of the engine, as I wasn't too far from home and it was getting dark I decided to risk getting it home and checking in the morning. On the way back I was having difficulty getting it into gear and then when I parked up I could not get it back into neutral.
Turns out the oil was gearbox oil (I know which smell to look out for now!) and the mechanic advised that I was stuck between gears as the gearbox had run dry of oil.
My question is how much should I expect these guys to charge, they obviously have to take it away and were good enough to come out when very few garages were interested so I want to give them my business, but in terms of fixing this what would it cost. They do not usually deal with older VW's (but they are a VAG specialist) and have a guy who rebuild gearboxes for them and so didn't really know how much it would cost.
Any responses appreciated!
Thanks
