Oil Leak/Smokey Issues

I've been having some smokey issues for a while now on my 1.6TD JX, I've had a few people (neighbour & mechanic) say they think its the valve stem seals. There is a lot of white smoke on starting the engine but after a few miles the smoke clears, from what I have been told the oil leaks into the exhaust system and then is burnt producing the smoke.

I have seen on various forums the way to test valve seals is to drive down a hill and let the engine overrun and then accelerate and a puff of smoke should come out the exhaust. I did this the other week but couldn't get it to do this, is this test conclusive or could there be another issue? There is an oil leak somewhere that drips on the road, not excessive but could they be linked? The engine runs fine, no loss of power, etc.

E D I T: I should also add the white smoke is only emitted when at high revs (until it clears) and I have changed the fuel and air filters recently. I will be changing the oil/oil filter in the next few weeks.

Thanks in advance!

Si

Ok so we now know it's Diesel :ok

Sadly I don't know much about Diesels, but I bet it's not oil that is burning (good news if I am right)
Oil burns with a blue hue to it.

Someone will be along soon to talk about injectors and pumps etc

Just realised I've put White but it does have a blue hue to it. It looks like james bond car when he releases the smoke screen!!
