T25 speedo cable goes to the wheel?

Hi all,

Ive just bought a 1986 T25 caravelle and the speedo dosent work. I found the problem, the speedo cable was broken at both ends.

Ive bought a new one from JK's and fitted it. All went well till I had to fit the end to the wheel. Im not sure where it connects too. Ive pushed the cable through the back of the wheel hub where the old one came out and it pushes throuhg the hub till it appears at the front of the wheel hub in the center of the wheel. It dosent seem to engage with any thing or have any thing to connect too.

The only thing I can think of is it attached to the cap that covers the bearing but my front pasenger wheel dosent have one so I dont know what it would have looked like.

I hope this makes sense.

Can any one help? Does any one know how this fits?

If I am missing a part do you know where I might get one, or dose someone have one I might be able to buy? Im in Colchester, Essex.

Thanks all in advance,

Del

you are right the part you are looking for covers the bearing and has a small square hole in it to locate the end of the cable
speedo hub cap put a post up in the wanted section allfieboy or billy may have a few in their yards :ok

If all you can find is a plain one, drill a small hole dead centre and file square with a needle file until end of cable pops neatly through.

Then it secures with a circlip

However mine has no circlip as I have fitted merc alloys with centre caps so the speedo cable end just engages with the square. No detrimental effect

I've known the cable wear (especially on beetle ones for some reason) until there was a groove in it the same depth as the square hole at which point the speedo pointer promptly drops to zero and says there. :D
