To be honest Aidan, I really don't know
I saw a Syncro at Stanford Hall in orange but it was sunbleached and difficult to gauge the colour properly. I am led to believe there are two shades, namely Brilliant Orange (L20B) and Pure Orange (L26Q) which I believe is the colour used for Feuerwehr.
I read Brilliant Orange was used on the Westfalia/Vanagon in the late '80's:
Prototype Katastrophe Syncro:

There are also the Civil Protection Vehicles which seen to be a blood orange colour (more red than orange):

I love these colours, this is the colour I shall be repainting my panel van in. One question though, what are those small vents in front of the air vents on the side of the van?
Orange vans for the win!

All panel vans have them, some form of forced ventilation to avoid condensation

Was going to say, if all panel vans have them, has someone welded up the windows on a caravelle for me? Maybe just later ones (mines 82)

I have since learned that only panel vans that originally had a full bulkhead between cab and back had them. Those with half height bulkheads or walkthroughs didn't get them.

This has become quite an interesting thread. I love the colours and if indeed the one of choice is Brilliant Orange (Leuchte Orange oddly does not translate to 'Brilliant Orange') then that is what I shall use.
The Foward Command vehicles and some of the Feuerwehr vehicles seem to favour 'Pure Orange (Rein Orange)' or L26Q which isn't listed as a standard VW colour and was only available to commercial markets.
I like the Kats wagens. Has anyone any idea if the radio setup would be useful outside the military?
