checked the bank statements online, I got 0.893 on cash withdrawl at Stadtoldendorf and 0.883/0.891 on card payments for fuel whilst I was away, and 0.885 on cash at the post office, including charges, before we left so wasn't quite 1:1 after all, but that was before the election
Paid Classic parts by bank transfer and got stung for £25 charges so it's cheaper to use the debit card to pay them than to do it direct upto about £2000 worth of stock ffs

Did you get charged an 'out of sterling area' charge on your card transactions?
We get charged 1.75% on credit cards when out of the Euro Zone.

I've got a Nationwide credit card that I only use for FX transactions.
You don't pay any fees for foreign transactions with Nationwide - and the rates you get are still very good indeed. My Dad and I compared his NatWest bill against my Nationwide and I was actually getting better rates than him - and he was still paying fees on top!

It really is a lottery when dealing with foreign currencies. I once had 'discussions' with my local bank about the difference they actually charged me and the quoted rates off their website. It was quite a difference. A raised voice, a blackberry logged on to their site and a long queue won the day!

Nationwide are now charging for some foregn curencys, but genrally only the more obscure ones. Euro is definately still free, same goes for other european currencys too, and maybe USD. Me and a mate also noticed Nationwide offered better exchange rates on top of their lack of charges - we worked out having been traveling for a month he's payed his bank an extra £75 that I didn't

Yeah quite. That's nearly a tank of fuel you got which your mate didn't -

Nationwide Debit. It's a winner. Still a true building society!
