Side Panel Thingy Ideas

Whilst rubbin' me belly against the van yesterday, it struck me that it might be possible to modify the side cover panel thingy (the thing wot covers the slider hinge mechanism, only it doesn't 'cos it's on the opposite side to the slider unless you have a twin slider :? ) to hinge up and cover items such as 240v hookup, remote jump lead sockets etc. Now it would look very neat if this were possible, reducing the number of hatches/plugs/fillers on the side of the van, but there could be a perfectly good reason not to do it apart from: 1. you'd have to move things and fill in holes, 2. it can't be done 'cos......, 3. you can't be arsed, 4. you'd rather drink beer than waste your time doing it. Has anyone done it or thought of doing it or seen it done? I just thought that it might be worth a short discussion. :D

Sounds a good idea, but my preferred option is 4

Sounds like a good idea.

I have a twin sliding panel van and would like an easily accessible socket to plug a hookup into, but don't really want it viewable.

The curvature of the panel behind it would prevent most things I'd have thought - making a hole watertight would be a pain in the @rse. Also, wouldn't the inner skin prevent all but the smallest depth item from fitting in?

Good point, I've not had the panel off the back to see just how much clearance there is.

Full marks for lateral thinking. I'm still trying to find a use for the vast space above gearbox nose - no idea why VW didn't make the most of that when working out contours of floor inside - hell of a waste. Alas though, I think option 4 wins out every time when we muse these things. Chickenkoop noticed a car at the pumps the other day where the rear light swung open and there was the petrol filler - very tempted to use that idea for LPG filler!

Perhaps rename this thread "Mysteries of unused space on the T25" or similar....

Thankfully they didn't, or they'd have never been able to fit a Syncro fuel tank in there if they had...
