I'm in the final stages of the rebuild of my van but now i'm having running problems so any help would be good.
Its a DG engine with a pierburg carb, it starts straight away and seems to run ok but it has no power, the slightest hill and i'm down to 20 mph and it seems to run hot and smell like its running rich.
There are 2 vacuum pipe outlets side by side at the back of the carb and 2 on the vacuum unit on the distributor, so my question is which pipes run off these outlets and to where? plus why would it not have any power, there's no smoke and the compression is very good in all cylinders.The other thing is its a Pierburg 2E, is this the right carb? i do have a solex would i be as well putting this back on? We're supposed to be going to France in 6 weeks so i need to get it done ASAP because i still have alot to finish so please help me if you can.

DG doesnt have a twin vac distributor so I would question that..
Was it originally a DF and someone has fitted a DG engine and manifold?

The solex wont bolt onas the manifolds are different and its also smaller..

Vac connections.. one is for the dizzy and the other should go up to the pull down unit.. But is it a T25 carb or off a golf or something??

It was a DF and the previous owner put a DG into it but kept the original Solex carb, so i bought a Pierburg cab and manifold and have put that on but it only says 2E on the carb, i was told it was off a T25. So from what you say i'm guessing that they also used the dizzie off the DF.
Do you think i will be as well to put the Solex back on and run it as was, the only reason i changed it was because i thought the solex would have made it a bit underpowered but i seem to have done that anyway.

It would be better to sort he pierburg.. either there is a fault/blocked jet/leak/float height problem etc etc....

set timing to 6 - 8 deg BTDC (no vac and leave the idle stabiliser, if fitted, bypassed) dont connect anything to the inner vac tube on the dizzy advance, just use the outer one..

I did strip the bloody thing before i fitted it and everything seemed fine. i'm running it with a mushroom filter as well because i only had the airbox off the Solex which is different so am i ok just blocking off the other vacuum pipe that goes to the airbox? I wasn't expecting it to run 100% straight off but jeeeez i could walk faster, it could be a long drive to S.France. i'll have another crack at it.

I've stripped and cleaned the carb out again, checked the float, jets etc and its still running the same. I just can't understand it, its running way too rich, it starts up fine,the choke shuts off nicely but its chucking too much fuel in and all the plugs are black and sooty WHY WHY WHY.

Screw it, i've just bought a weber.
