Hi all,
Poorly t25 camper 1980 1584cc air cooled CT enginge code.
Serious Judder from the back when driving.
Checked the engine mounts, Had a new gearbox mount, new clutch cable, new clutch, fly wheel skimmed and fitted - judder still there!
The garage now seem to think the gearbox is shot!
If i can find a replacement 1.6L CT gearbox i will fit that obviously, what i would like to know is does any other gearbox fit??? Or if i swapped the whole engine and gearbox for a 2.0L air cooled unit would this be a straight fit with regards to the prop shaft or anything else?
Someone kindly informed me that the 1.6 CT engine code stood for 'Chuck The F...er' anyway!
Any info gratefully received.

How does it drive between gear changes? I know it judders when pulling away but is it ok when the clutch is fully engaged? If it's ok then I can't understand why the garage would say it needs a new gearbox. Judder isn't a gearbox related problem anyway to my knowledge.
If you push repeatedly fairly hard on one side of the engine, does it move easily or not move much at all?
Are all cylinders firing ok or have you noticed a misfire at all?

Hi ya,
Probably not the right answer, but when my van was juddering from the rear I thought the engine was coming off of its engine mounts! It was actually the wheel was loose. Please check the wheels - you don't want what happened to my van happening to yours mate.

Ps. While you're still here... What was the outcome with the clutch cable. Did it have the correct bend in it?

Does the garage know there has to be a bend in it?

Back again, sorry..... Told the garage there has to be a nice smooth bend in the cable / conduit on the gearbox end?
Also told them to thoroughly check all mounts, may be best for me to check all these myself!
I'm in Derby, Derbyshire.
It's driving me mad as i know there is going to be a nice £££ bill waiting for me and i hope it's nothing as simple as a dodgy mount or the clutch cable thats been missed!!

When pulling off in 1st gear is the worst, sometimes if you give it some right foot through the gears.

Gearbox mount on the "nose" of the gearbox... didnt I suggest this a week or so ago... ?? maybe to someone else..
The rubber delaminates from the metal sleeve, it looks ok on the face of it, but when under load it moves around... or the clutch cable conduit has to have the bend in it as per the manual describes or it will give the same symptoms..
You best have a look yourself...
If it was a CV joint it would be rough all the time, especially under load... if the gearbox was at fault play would be clear in an output shaft and more than likely oil would pee out..
Its difficult to diagnose without seeing it.. very difficult.. we can only offer a best guess, but more often than not we have a better guess than the mech working on the bloody things....
