diesel engine and glow plug indicator light

Hi. Could anybody advise me on how long I should wait before turning the ignition switch fully on if my glow plug indicator light is not working and will i cause any damage if i turn it on too soon, Many thanks in advance for any comments. Tom.

15 seconds should cover it, but if it's really cold leave it longer.
You will not do any damage trying too soon, the motor might take a bit of cranking over before it catches.

The glow light has never worked on mine and I've never got around to fixing it.
I just switch on the ignition, count to 10 then start. Works fine. In winter I do the same but pull out the choke slowly as it starts to turn over. Then shut the choke pretty much straight after it has caught.
