mine doesnt work, is there anything else i can use out there, as i do worry, especially when stuck in a jam

Have you checked the connection to the sender? Might just need a bit of a jiggle...

i took it to an electrician who ripped my original dash to bits, and have had a few since, but it still doesnt work, i have wiggled n jiggled, but i suspect the wiring has gone wrong somwhere inbetween the sender and the dash .

Hiya, take the plug off the temp sender and put a sort piece of wire (with the ends bared) into the plug holes. With the ignition on the guage should go slowly to the top. If it does this you know the wiring and guage are working fine and you need a new temp. sender .....

If it doesn't go to the top then you need to investigate the wiring and/or guage which is the job of an auto-electrical genius

The Diesel one is just a single spade connector - I think you earth it to test...

OH ECK,mine was a petrol and is now a diesel. !!! I trull have no idea what plugs n stuff are so wouldnt know where to look. do you mean the sender thing in the engine or the actual dash itself ?

Yes, in the engine bay. On a JX diesel there are two either side where a water pipe emerges at the back (ie facing front of vehicle) of the engine block. Your engine may be different...

I thought if temp gauge was buggered , you could by an add on . can you ?

And it didn't occur to you that the problem might be in the engine bay, not the dash?

My last t25 1.9 petrol had a dead temp guage so the previous owner fitted an add on under the speedo dial. (the other one is a rev guage). You coulds swivel it up and down as it was on a bracket.

Don't know where it was connected to though but it did work, heres a pic.

E D I T:I seem to remember the light worked on mine and it was just the needle which didn't. Don't know what that implys but good luck anyways. And saying all that thinking about it if it had got really hot I wouldn't have know from that guage as whats hot anyway it seemed to hover around the 50 mark ie. that third line. When mine used to get hot in traffic the fan would come on all the time so that was always a good warning I'm thinking. I guess if I ever did have a prob a combination of the fan coming on all the time and the needle on the add on moving up from its usual position (which it did at times a little) would have alerted me.

Get the spade end connector replaced that fits onto the temp sender unit in the engine bay. Mine was corroded and replacing it fixed the problem. Costs next to nothing to do.
