The head is off to be skimmed - apparently the valves can stay in place.

If I put the followers back in the same place they came out of, will they need any measuring/setting up, or will nothing have changed so they'll be fine as they are?

If they go back in the same place they will be the same as before. They may not have been correct before, its worth re checking clearances.
