One thing leads to many many others

Well this started of as a crash repair to replace the complete rear panal,
Image
So no problems, old panal removed and replacement prepped ready, then you notice the oil leak down the n/side and the leak around the filler pipe as a result of the bump,
Image

So you think well the engine has done 45K (vege) so might be a good idea to do the cambelt and tensioner, it is never going to be easier, cam cover off and found the gasket had been fitted wrong, hence the leak, Oh look ,whats that brownish stain near the water pump? Its leaking, well better replace it now as it will never be easier!
Will have to drop all the water out, hmmmmm, Ive got a mint rad in the shed, might fit it while I'm at it, never really be easier as I have all the water out and the van is jacked right up,

Im waiting for bits so check the drive shafts, bit of play in one cv and notice oil/grease around the o/s outer and one bolt loose,

Image
brakes worth a look as the pipes are iffy,

Image
so both hubs and shafts out, re-grease etc, fit a replacement hub, while the shafts are out I think well theres not much holding the box in! so out it comes and in goes a new clutch, well it is easy now. Also removed the entire gearlinkage as it was awfull and have serviced one from the viking I have just broke,
Nice shiny brake pipes.

Image
refit brakes as the shoes and cyclinders are in good order.

Got more coffee. now whilst under the van I notice a slight change of colour / texture to the underside of the fuel tank must have accidently sprayed some wd40 in that direction? er no not used any, seems a little weep of gods fuel, how bad is it, will it be ok for another year or so? questions questions, if it leaks a bit more so what well it may get really bad, fuel costs money, oh well never be a better easier time and I have a new blue tank in the big shed so out with the tank, good job as it had a weep on the top as well.
Now when I say brake pipes can look good and bad well.. the end you see still has the shiny vw paint on it, the bit above the tank and out of sight snapped in two fingers!
Image
So the tank is out and we look at the handbrake cable, this isnt that bad, BUT it will never be easier and for £10 well worth doing, so this is changed and well greased up, all new pipes from compensator back,
will do the front pipes and flexis tommorow,
Was going to be a rust touch up but well one thing leads to another so,
Image
Other side of and the sill as well
Image
Both sides behind the slider runner are shot so have folded up a couple of panals for those and will wheel out a couple of ribbed parts for behind the rear 1/4 panals, more pickies as the job progresses.

If anyone wants any specific or more detailed picks just ask, if you bored then call and visit I wont make you work :ok

Spare fuel tank with new hoses fitted,

Throttle cable looked a bit scabby so replaced .
All gear linkages back on with new bushes etc,
Waterpump oil and filters tommorow then a start on the bodywork which will be the easy bit

Great post! The bit with the front brake pipes is well scary.
I am envious of your workshop space and looking forward to the next exciting installment.
