Camping in Holland

Evening all, just booking the ferry to go to Calais from Dover with the intention of driving up to Holland. Can anyone recommend places to stop en route for touristy bits (although we do have a 6 month old and a 3 yr old), places to camp etc etc any advice would be very appreciated.

Also does anyone know whether I would be better to book campsites on the web here before I leave, or just take a load of post codes of campsites, a sat nav and stay where we happen to end up??

Cheers Richie

I'd advise booking if you can - camping is very popular in the Netherlands (Holland is just one bit of it, not the whole country) and sites get full, especially in summer. Places en route depends which way you're headed really - Maastricht is very nice (Camping Oosterdriessen is a lovely place by the lake), as is the Hoge Veluwe national park near Arnhem. If you're heading for Amsterdam, I'd take a look at Camping Gaasper - nice site, easy transport into the the city, and a little more family-friendly than the hippy haven that is Camping Zeeburg.

We went to Zeeland last year, very nice area with some nice coastline. There's not a lot going on there which means an opportunity to relax, but there's enough to fill your time. Cycle paths everywhere and of course very flat.
Head up to Knocke Heist which is on the Belgium coast (not many campsites there) then drive over the border to the Netherlands where there are many campsites, just take your pick, you'll see them as you drive along. They call the smaller sites which do not have static caravans and chalets Mini Camping.
Enjoy.

All the Dutch campers we saw were heading South through Belgium  There were loads of nice Dutch peeps in Normandy 3 years ago. I agree about Zeeland, reminded me of Norfolk (fancy that !)

We stayed here last summer.http://www.campinghetrietveen.nl/index. ... &Itemid=36" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Just a basic campsite, but on the waters edge, we swam everyday. Supermarket 300m, bus to amsterdam 100m and 20 mins on the bus. Good facilities, peaceful site only 5 minutes from the ring road. It was about 60% full in late August. We liked the place very much.

We also stayed for a few days herehttp://www.camping-memling.be/which" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; is in Brugge Belgium. Lovely city, but the campsite was 110% full and facilities stretched. easy walk into town, supermarket across road, and on the edge of a forest park with adventure playpark and a swimmingpool. It was so busy we were pleased to get out though.
