Westfalia Electrical problems (might be fuses)

Hi. We were camping with our recently bought Westfalia Atlantic and had a problem crop up with the electrics.

We had been having problems with the water pump (constantly on) and the only way to switch it off was to take out one of the spade connections on the switch under the tap - after fiddling with this one day I discovered the display panel lights were not working and also the fridge would not ignite on the gas (no sparking).

The Eber is still ok with power to both control panels.

I'm guessing it may be a fuse somewhere but not sure where to start looking (there is a small box on the pillar behind the drivers seat but no obvious way of opening it)

Can anyone help?

Sounds like you have similar problems to the ones I had with my California.

Water tap staying on will be either the microswitch itself OR the operating pin that seizes in the end of the tap mechanism (either way the tap needs stripping, cleaning and rebuilding with grease) be careful with the small 'O' ring on the pin that seizes.

Teo fuses (the front one I believe is 25amp) situated on the drivers door piller below the seat belt real (loose or missing fuse?) the front of this holder comes off be undoing the screw that goes through the centre of it.

Yep it was the fuse - 16a fuse melted so time to strip down that tap - i suspect its the same issue either stuck switch or worn pin that turns it off. Is there a type of grease you would recommend for the tap assembly?

Just general purpose should be fine (water pump grease may last longer but is very heavy) cheap fuses are made of plastic (better ones are pot/ceramic and don't melt) clean the holes where the taper fuse end sits and re-tension the contacts.

Well I took the tap off and stripped it down - the pin wasn't worn but was quite stiff but once freed it was fine - also needed to adjust the screw at the side so the pin was reaching the microswitch ok. was quite pleases with the assembly and i could hear the microswitch being clicked on and off with the tap.

Put the assembly back in the van (a couple of fuses popped while I was putting the wires back on the terminals) Get it all wired with a fresh fuse and nothing...

No pump sound even though i can see the tap is clicking the microswitch ok. First guess is the whole switch mechanism has broken so i've gone and ordered a new one from Gunzl. If that doesn't work then could a short have damaged the pump? Is it possible to bypass the switch to test the pump.

Was hoping this was a simple job but its starting to slip away from me :-(
