i thought it might be of use to everyone to catalogue good approaches for cutting and welding new panels on, all in the same accessible place, taking bits from forum posts. i think this might be of benefit to other users.

possible things to include might be -

* how much clearance metal to leave and where to make cuts.
* measurements
* types of welding, lap joins etc
* detail on original spot welds and distance apart, ways of emulating this when putting new panels on
* enhancements to previous structure to prevent avoid common rust traps

Yes please Im just about to undertake
all of the above with not a clue on how to go about it.

I have been jumping from post to post to find that I need.

Will post as I go along so people can see how not to do it.

I'm a real amateur when it comes to mig welding but eventually found a setting that works great for the thickness of steel around the T25. Also highly recommend CO2/Argon mix rather than straight CO2 - much smoother!

With the amount of people cutting panels out and welding,
windscreen repairs etc there only seams to be 3
people interested in this article.

Sorry but no! Every repair is gonna be different, panels not lining up or rotten behind so every time is different!

No point, plus I get a brill weld on pure CO2 (pub gas) only ever use argon when welding stainless!

But im scared and need someone to hold my hand
like the big girl I am.

Thats fair enough but untill you start cutting stuff owt your never gonna know exactly what to do!

Very true going to wait for panels to arrive before cutting anything
to check size etc. And as you say everyone is different.

Although in theory some jobs are similar, in practice they're not as you can encounter all kinds of problems. There are many WIKI articles already on tacking certain areas but truth is, some T25s are rustier than others and what you think is going to be straightforward, frequently isn't. Besides, there are so many other sites as well as YouTube videos on welding tecxhniques.

As you know, I've written some fairly comprehensive pieces on here but even with all the detail I put in sometimes, I still get asked questions.

To be honest, welding panels is a subject all of its own. I think its useful to see how others have done theirs but theres no singular way to do any welding job.

Yeah, would definitely be interested in seeing some scans of that!

Threads like Covkid's and ropeman23's are full of extremely useful t25/t3-centric pointers and photos, however places like mig-welding.co.uk are probably the best to go for general welding tips.
