I would just like to share with you a bad experience that occured in the camp Zlatne Pesky in Bratislava.
The camp is situated on the outskirts of Bratislava, I would assess with max. one star (the sanitation and cleanliness in general). In the camp we were only two campers and two with the caravan. At the time of 30 minutes when we were with family at the playground thief climbed on the bike rack, then onto the roof and through the mini heki inside and steal all our money and all documents. The robbery hapents at 16:00, and the police arrived in the camp very quick at 21:00. Thecamper was locked and we were located only air line 100 m away.
Our short vacation has been destroyed and so we have immediately went home. Within three years of camping I have heard many similar stories, but none has occurred in the camp, that gives us a negative experience with camping in Bratislava.
We will not stop campig but there we are not going back.

Sorry to read this, we always try to be security and safety conscious but sometimes you have to let your guard down to enjoy yourself.

Having said that I can honestly say I've never stayed anywhere in Europe where I felt intimidated or threatened what-so-ever.

Fortunately, Bratislava wasn't on my list of 'must see' locations.

Currently, it's Derbyshire, Lake District, and Scotland. And we all know there are no theives about in those places - right?

Ah, it’s a shame....

I have married a Bratislava girl so have been going there since 96. The place has changed massively over all those years, not always for the better (Tesco has now over run the place ) And you are absolutely right, I would never trust my camper in Bratislava overnight, largely because there is still an element that sees English people as rich and "fair game".... (The wife confirms this of some of her countrymen by the way!)

But don’t let this put you off the country itself. If there is anything i have learnt over all my travels is that Capital cities are much more like each other than the countries in which they reside and that could not be more true than in Slovakia...

As soon as you get to the boarders keep on driving until you get the major cities behind you and things will get much better very quickly.

The mountains and lakes are unbelievably beautiful, at least the equal of the alps etc but without the attitude and much less people, and the people are largely warm and intelligent, just be careful when they offer you drinks form bottles with no labels.......

I am getting a camper built over here mainly because i am inspired to mooch around the north of Slovakia (see the Syncro section), but emphasis is definatly on the non-city areas...

After more than two weeks and my three emails I got answer from the camp.
"Hello Goce, we are really sorry of your robbering in our camping but we were official open from 1. may 2010 and before this time we didnt have security in camp."
But when I paid nobody gave me that information.
A sense of security was the main reason we went to camp.
