hi we have a 2.1 petrol engine but we have never had the petrol gauge working since we bought it wa jut wondering if anybody would know what the miles per gallon would be it on a g plate 89 i think

between 18-24, subject to how you drive it

We have taken our 2.1 MV California around Europe the last 2 years.
Holland, France, Germany and Switzerland 2008....overall 25.8 MPG
Just France last year....................................overall 25.6MPG
Fully laden up and down mountains....lol

I'm working mine out at the moment (1.6 td syncro). All I do is reset the odometer and fill it to an inch from the top (theres a line). Then do the same after say 200 miles or so and enter the details here.

I get 38mpg in traffic, 46mpg at 50-55mph.

That sounds a bit optimistic to me. I think a lot of these figures are arrived at by dodgy methodology or inaccurate gauges and odometers.

Personally I just brim the tank til the pump clicks, then reset the odo (which appears accurate compared to gps). Then next time I fill up I brim it again and get a receipt, and write the odo figure on the back. This gives accurate numbers to work out the mpg with no guesswork or relying on the fuel gauge. I get approx. 30mpg out of the 1.6td generally, although I guess I could get a little more if I slowed down a bit...

Just done my 1.9 DG this last weekend on M1 run and got 23.65 mpg, didnt flog it but a good few long hills

I work mine out on gas, fill up to max do 180 miles refill work out MPG (around 4 to 4.2MPL)

Very optomistic unless driven like a granny..... 46mpg in a syncro...

I was trying to put it nicely...

The two trips I quoted were both well over 2,000miles each, brim filling and noting down the mpg from every fill then working out the overall average.
From memory....and it's been a couple of years, there were a couple of fills where the consumption hit just over 28mpg and several dipping just below 22mpg.
Predictably the 28 was on long flat motorways at 65mph and the sub 22's driving up and over the Alsace, Albiss pass and driving through Interlaken and up the windy mountainous roads to Grindelvald.
And then of course, the last tank and a half fully laden with 15 cases of beer and 60 bottles of wine.
Personally, I don't think that is bad at all and as accurate as you are going to get as it was based on many fills over a very long distance.
