water pump problem...

Hello.

First post on here as a newbie. Been reading a lot of the threads to do work on my van over the winter, including a roller paint job (cheers CovKid!).

My problem is... I need to replace the water pump on my 1988 1.9 watercooled T25 but cannot find the right part. I have had 3 different ones from JK (they made the initial mistakes) and I now have the one which is meant for a 85 - 90 T25. The only problem is the one on my van does not have the water pipe coming off the top, whereas the one i have to fit does (Haynes says that this is to connect to the Oil Cooler). Everyone tells me that this is the right part but that would mean that the one on my van is wrong?

will uploaded pics of one fitted and one to fit... any ideas or workarounds?
can i just block up the additional outlet?

if the one your fitting is the same other than additional outlet then i would presume you just block that off small piece of hose connected then a suitable bolt smeared in sealent inserted to hose then a jubile clip to secure is what i,d do hopefully if i,m wrong someone will say,,good luck

Check in the box to see if there's a blanking cap, if so unscrew the spigot and replace with the bung. Otherwise add a short piece of hose and fasten a suitable bolt into the end.

The one you've got there is the generic late 1.9/2.1 pump, the extra outlet is for the oil cooler plumbing.

As Ian has said.i've fitted a new one today from gsf,i removed the spigot from the pump and put a bolt(which was in a small bag in the box) into the hole where the spigot was.simples.

Cheers for the replies... The one i got from Just Kampers didn't come with the bung but I'll get a bolt to fit.

Am assuming the spigot is threaded to keep it in place so it should just unscrew? might need some persuasion i guess.

Otherwise use a short length of hose from the spigot and block it with a bolt, all sealed properly of course.

I had the same issue, went to a hose specialist & got a compression fitting blank cap (not a technical term) 2years and no leaks :D

I think playing No 1 for Wales would be easier than getting the water pump off. I did get the old one off eventually and fitted the new one, with a sealed bolt in place of the spigot. Cheers for all the help.
