After 18 mths owning van, & being scared to go anywhere without hook up after a flat bettery incident(luckily on our drive). I finaly got around to sorting out which battery runs what.
Disconnected engine battrey, all lights worked including door opening lights. disconnected leisure battery, all lights also worked.
Is this right, how are these systems supposed to work.
I thought the leisure battery was supposed to run lights etc to prevent main battery being depleted

Any help greatfully received

The lights worked with both batteries disconnected? Witchcraft!

As standard, your interior lights and radio should be running off the starter battery - but many campers have been modified to run them off the leisure instead. It's pretty simple to do, a search should find you the details.

So both batteries appear to run the lights? You may have a problem with your split charging circuit - perhaps a stuck relay?

Or maybe even that one is not fitted and it is just a parallel connection?

As said, somehow both batteries are permanently connected together. Split charge relay stuck on or someone has hard wired a connection between them. Not an ideal situation by any means. Disconnect both and use a multimeter to trace where all the wires go and you'll get a better idea of what's occurring. What conversion is it?

I thought it did the fridge igniter and the water pump for the sink, too?

its called a mistral conversion,
no one seems to have heard of it, van was imported from poland I think.

it does seem to be a professional conversion.
up till now I know very little about electrics, guess its time to start learning.

Thanks again for the info
