Hello everyone,
right then, this is the first time ive posted on here so bear with me if im in the wrong section or going about this the wrong way.
My problem is this, i have a 1982 T25 high top with a 2.0l Aircooled engine (cu code) ive had it for 5 months and its been sat unmoved for the last 4 months while i attempted to spruce it up a bit. I went to start it today and although it started first try, i was greeted by an unpleasant noise. It was running perfectly for the first month i had it so its strange the noise should just "appear" It sounds like quite noisy tappets, is this something anyone has come accross after having had their van sat for any length of time. Just seems strange that it wasnt making this noise the last time i used it but its there now.

a common problem.a good 5/6 mile run normally sorts it.

really, will it not do any damage? any idea what actually causes it?

its usually drained tappets.

thanks, i'll take it for a little run tommorow,

very common while your van has stood the tappets have drained down. Give it a nice run for a few miles and will go no damage caused.

Mine always suffered from one lazy tappet so i got myself some wynns treatment specially for the job and could not be more pleased with the result

is that something that can just be bought from a motor factors?

Short periods of engine running (ie just starting it for 5 mins/moving it on the drive/going to the end of the street and back) will cause problems for a lazy tappet.. goinf for a 20 min drive should cure it.. also, anything less than a 15w40 oil will not help either...

Is it a good idea to keep starting a stored t25 over the winter to help stop this problem? I haven't started mine since the end of September 09.

What if the tappits are still noisy after 5-6 miles, will it then start to be a big problem?

they dont like being stood.so yes run it at least once a week.apparently using a 20w 50 oil helps to stop the tappets draining so easily.

I shall certainly do that next winter. I'll also give it a run up and down the drive to keep the brakes free. Took me ages to get the van moving, this morning. Thanks Rob

if parking it up for long periods of time i would.leave the handbrake off.but leave it in gear.
