Whats the best way to clean an oil cooler and make sure that it isnt blocked?

I have filled it with petrol but not that it is circulating around the unit.

I persum that one hole is inward and the other outward, anyone know which way the oil flows?

Thanks :?:

I have seen a 'how to' dvd which suggested filling with paraffin about half way then shaking with your fingers over the holes for 30 seconds one way, then turn upside down and repeat for another 30 secs. Repeat for 2 mins.

Sounds a but archaic and not sure how effective this is but it is how I did mine... :D
