OK this subject in the wiki is woefully inadequate and needs some info gathering up, before posting to help out the growing number of EPAS modifiers as well as those who are at risk of toasting their looms through ignorance. As an opener:
I have noticed that the wheel fitted in my '95 SA looks remarkably like an early T4 wheel even though it's got a South african 22S part number (but the pad has a 701 ### ### part number which is T4): I don't know anything about T4's so can't comment on the spline/taper fitting.
Apparently a 3-spoke wheel from a later Polo will fit without problems.
Anyone also running a T4 care to elaborate on the subject?

What steering wheel have you fitted successfully, how was it done (straight on, adaptor, modified the wheel hub)
For the common good and all that...

Some subjects are like carossels and do the loop again and again and probably the reason for the lack of response.

Here are my last two wheels...the Momo being my current wheel of choice.

The MK1 GTI wheel which has the same spline as a T25 but needs the indicator lug extending or switch gear raising slightly (not as difficult as it sounds)

Thanks Red, that's a start. Do like the old Gti wheel - reminds you that it's a flat 4 Hard to find a nice one nowdays

Well the GTI wheel is in the shed and for sale I guess.....

A great upgrade from the standard, horrid, thin, hard plastic steering wheel (Dia 45 cm) is the thick and soft, slightly smaller steering whel from a model with power steering (Dia 42 cm)
Straight swap, much nicer grip, still workable without PAS (even on a Syncro), you can still see the instruments and looks much nicer too

(and it doesn't have to say "carat" on it either)
Plenty of these pop up on fleabay for reasonable money

I have been told that T4 wheels are a bolt-on, no-hassle option. 2 minute job
Haven't tried yet (need to get a good one from the online jumble sale)
Anyone done this and care to comment/add a picture - for the collective good?

Im currently workinh an a genuine Wolsburg wheel. 3 Chrome spokes and soon to have a custom wooden rim made and fitted.

Porsche 964 wheel is a strait swap according to a recent Camper & Bus magazine, but they do print alot of rubbish.

MKII Scirocco wheel on mine.
Probably the same(ish) as the MKI GTi wheel but easier to get from the breakers.
I suspect the similar aged Passat ones are the same (as most of the Passat / Scirocco bits are)

Swapped the horn ring over from the original T25 wheel.
Put a self tapping screw in to work the indicator canceler.
Had to scrape a bit of plastic off the hub to clear (did this easily with a Stanley knife)

1/2 hours job really

Only downside is it masks the all important Temp gauge a bit !

Mine is a Mountney, no mods required but no idea if still available.

Only very early ones, pre airbag, newer ones apparently have different splines (and the old ones are fugly )

What's wrong with this? I can see all my instruments and the cancellation works

Dont know if its an upgrade, but LT is a straight swap.

Nothing at all, it's rather nice actually. The same shape comes in hard, black plastic and then it's just fugly (IMO)
