hmmm a couple of things

Morning peeps. This morning as it's a lovely day I decided to adjust the electric mirrors from lhd to rhd, my first stumbling block was how the hell they managed to get the connector blocks through the very small hole, second was, how do you undo the nut at the bottom of the mirror. Anyone got any ideas? I've managed to get the wires out of one connector (the white one), but can't get the wires out of the black one.
Also the van will not start this morning, it wasn't running last week so I took the wire off the starter motor and cleaned it, didn't work, then tried again and hey presto it sprung to life. This morning...... Nothing.

Hi

I just did this last week. The spade lugs slip out of the blocks fairly easily. As for the bolt, you mean the one on the bottom with the slot and the cables running through it? I used a pair of long nosed pliers for this. Once off I cut the three lugs that hold the mirrors in LHD position with a hacksaw (see pic).

Then cut the 4 flat tabs that restrict the mirror glass movement down so they can move much further and freely, I just need to wire my loom up now, but haven't had the time.

Good luck!
Ben

hi ben so did you just cut it flat then put it back together? I was gonna do it the way it was explained in the thread on brickyard

http://www.brick-yard.co.uk/forum/forum ... 778#127778" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

But if i can get away with not having to file out new lugs then that'd be a result. Wont they then move at motorway speeds like the other mirrors?

I must have read that thread fifty times before I tried this and couldn't make any sense of it!
I just cut lugs, filed them smooth and tightened the nut back up nice and tight. They have been on the van for about a week and a half, I've been on the motorway at 70 (downhill obviously!) and they have been fine.

Still can't get the drivers side nut undone, tried long nose pliers, tried screwdriver and still it won't budge. Anyone got any other ideas of how this can be undone.

There's always one isn't there.

I guess you've tried soaking it in WD40/releasing fluid? The other thing I considered before I tried pliers was cutting a slot in a bit of iron bar to form a makeshift tool.

soaked it in wd40 but still didn't budge. It had been centre punched at the top of the nut and tread to stop it moving by the looks of it so I had to knock the nut off with a hammer. Upside, nuts off. Downside need to find a new nut to fit the tread. Just been down Halfrauds and they haven't got any, went on the vagcat site and the catalog is not working. Although they've now had a nice good few coats of paint on them.

wd40 is not a penetrating oil.its a water-displacing spray.what you should use is plusgas..
