I did this myself a year ago and added a meaty diesel battery to suit. I picked up a new 90amp through Ebay for bargain price of £25 one afternoon and sure enough I only had to change the pulley. One rather nice side effect of upgrading was that the cooling fins on the new alternator give my wedgie a rather pleasing 'jet' sound on acceleration.

Worth doing this, particularly if you have extra lights, stereo, teasmaid etc and easy enough power to charge two batteries. I just like the fact the starter motor whizzes over even on a freezing morning.

nice one - how do we find out what our current alternators are?? Mines a 1600 diesel one (with a 1900 diesel engine)

its stamped on the plate on the alternator body louey...

I think i'm right in saying that petrol versions are 45amp and Diesel - 65amp as standard. Mind you, a beefy battery wasn't far short of £70 if I remember but the upgrade is worth it if you're a power user. I would think that diesel owners probably have a big battery anyway. I vaguely remember having to make a slight modification to the connectors on the back but nothing major.

Yep. I did the same 90amp to deal with all the toys, Amp, Fridge, DVD, Leisure Battery, TV, Steroe etc. Cost me about £90 fitted for a reconned unit at L.A. alternaters in Warrington.
