Help for a Newbie - Sink Problems

Hi

We bought a lovely 1990 Westie Atlantic a week ago and off we went round the highlands. Everything worked fine apart from the fresh water tap. I saw it working when we bought it but the owner did tell us it was temperamental and sometimes air bubbles in the tube from the tank to the tap caused it to stop working but would settle down when the van was parked up.

I've tried all week to get the tap to work but no amount of coaxing will get it going. There is no sound coming from the pump so doesn't sound like its working at all. The pump was replaced (we've been told) recently so it should be ok. Does anyone know where i should be looking for maybe loose connections etc?

Cheers

Update: found a response to another post which i hadn't been able to find earlier. It explained to take out the drawer and find the microswitch. had a feel under the sink and must have brushed against one of the connectors as the tap sprung (no pun intended) to life! only problem is that you can hear the pump running after I close the tap so i've had to pull out one of the connectors.

Could this be a burned out or stuck microswitch? anyone had a similar problem?

Did you let it get up to a full water flow, or was there still a lot of air coming through? If there's a high %age of air, the pump might still try to work even with the tap off.

I let it run for a few seconds. Ill maybe try to let it run a bit longer and see if it is air in the pipe.

Thanks

Ok so this has turned into a bit of a saga now.

i took the tap out and stripped it, and adjusted it so that it was hitting the microswitch just perfect - put it back in and ... nothing. Reckoned that the microswitch may have broken so ordered a new one from Gunzl which finally came the other day.

Put the new switch in and ... again nothing so its not the switch. I Probably need to get hold of a multimeter to see if its getting any power.

The pump had been working fine before so I've no idea what the problem is - the fuse is fine as its the same one that runs to the LEDs and they are fine.

Is there anything else i can test or is there a way of testing the pump to make sure its ok.

Sorry if these are obvious questions i'm not that great with electrics

I'm having similar problems, the switch was being very intermittent and seemed to have a life of its own! I bought a new pump but that didn't work, think I've got it down to some dodgy spade connectors near the water tank.

Someone might correct me if I'm wrong but you should be able to test the pump by just disconnecting the connection to the tap and shorting the two connectors that go into the tap?
