Dilemma and query...maybe for sale...SOLD

.... unfortunately I might have to sell my Syncro Caravelle, which will be gutting especially since I have just got it going how I wanted. Not sure really what it'd be worth though

Its a 1989 RHD 2.1DJ Syncro Caravelle GL with working front and rear difflocks. Its done about 230000 miles total with about 50000 on a new engine (no documentation for that though!) I know its only worth what someone will pay for it, but what do people reckon for a ballpark figure??? (cue some offers of about £50 to take it off my hands!!!)

depends on condition alot and i dont know the van but at a guess i`d say tidy condition and fully working and legal £3500 upwards if you`ve spent 2 or 3 times that on it then obviously that statement wont count for much.

It's a RHD syncro for starters. So one of about 2000 ever made worldwide, now about 1000 surviving iirc. Its a DJ, that's good too. GL spec, better still. Twin lockers as well :D It's all looking very good for you.
What state is the body in? I'd be interested at 5k anyday if it's clean and straight but all my cash is spent on another :( damn I love these vans!
Mileage is irrelevant, condition is everything.
My advice? Wait until after Syncro 25 at Mammut Park and get it on the market then for a good return.
PS Get some better pics in your "garage" once you've cleaned up the interior

Fair comment Neil! I was just outlining what a good asset he's got there. I wanted a syncro 'velle (which I have now got) but would have been happier if it had been more original - like with more seats  I'll just have to make do with my little DG for now...

I've been wondering the same thing about my panel van , with the little one here now i might change it for something with windows in, i cant bear to cut such a solid van  it just depends on how much you get but i would love a syncro crewcab.

Shame its not a LHD. My mate has a 2wd westy that has a really good interior but is rotten and is looking for a reasonably priced LHD syncro velle to turn into a westy syncro. Kind of makes a RHD van less desirable in his case if you know what i mean.

Nah, theres any number of lefties out there, whither you want a ex army, a finish border adgency or a swedish elec company van, the choice is out there. Now the number of RHD is severly resticted, and with the exception of the very rare barn find, theres not too many undiscovered good condition RHD syncros comming on the market. Not to mention the British fondness for salt which is slowly turning our motors to dust.

I'd put my neck on the line and say a really good rust free RHD GL would be worth a good bit more than its LHD counterpart, simply because there are more rust free LHD's out there to choose from.
But Mattk918 is right on the money, the motors only worth what someone with cash in their pocket is willing to pay.
We all loved the white tristar that was for sale for some time, we'd all have insured it and valued it much higher than it sold for, but at the end of the day, it only sold when the asking price was right for the market.
For 5K you can start to buy a syncro camper, there have been other caravelles around that price on here over the last few months, couldnt say if they all sold, so its really horses for courses and the luck of the draw, who happens to be looking when your selling and what are they after.

Or you could just take this as the ramblings of someone who only drives RHD, i've had a lefty syncro and didnt like it so my opinion maybe slightly biased.

Price wise, got to agree with everyone above, IMHO its the right body/spec with the right engine so its all down to condition, i recon between 4 to 5k, but reduce that to 2.5 if the bodys shot. Top price would need to be for a 'sorted' van, ie new VC and refurbed gearbox, that sort of thing already taken care of.

thanks for the responses guys.

Any views on where the best prices are achieved.. i.e. on here, Brickyard, Volkszone, Autotrader, fleabay etc???
:ok
The pics below are a bit old, but the main change is the interior has been cleaned up a bit!!!

It currently has merc steels with AT tyres on, but I think I'm going to keep those, hence the older pics.

If you want a lot of tyre kickers and stupid low offers, go to Volkzone! You'll have to mark it up heavily to give some bargaining space :rofl fleabay the same unless you go for a sensible Best offer... here or t'yard it will go to a good home and be appreciated by someone who knows what it is. But you won't get top dollar, just a fair price.
Or take it to a show or five once Mammut Park has got the punters all fired up for syncro fun!
Nice van, btw. Would make a nice "winter bus". That bit of seam rash will cost a few quit to get put right as it's silver. The sprayer's favourite

Blimey Matt,
Your pics are like a mirror image to my shed, except I have the normal bog-standard 14 inch steels and VW hub-caps bearing Michelin Aguis tyres and 2 underslung 45 litre LPG tanks.

Even down to the rusty seam bits!

Eric.

Shed is a bit harsh!!! :D

To be honest that engine bay carpet gives a worse imprssion of the interior than it really is, it is by far the worst bit.....
