BATTERY TO STARTER CABLE

Hi there folks, my battery to starter cable is showing signs of age, it has the blue crud on it at the starter end, also the voltage to the battery when the engine is running is 13.6volts. The starter is also a bit sluggish, I have replaced the starter and the bush and checked the earthing.

My van has a 2.o a/c engine. I'm thinking it would be a good idea to run a new lead through and a new one from the alternator.

Now my questions are:-

1. Where can I get the cable?

2. What size should I ask for?

Any of you leccy spurts help?

Plenty of choice there! You can always use thicker cable but not thinner. Main thing is getting a good connection each end and you may need an auto-electrician to put terminals on properly,

Original spec is 35mm cable.

The alternater might only be a 65amp but when you consider the starter motor could draw up to 200amps on a cold day....and the longer the cable the higher the resistance....thats why it needs to be so thick.....and the reason the terminal ends needing to be properly fitted.

Opps didn't notice you are doing the alternater cable as well.
That is two 2.5mm cables running in parallel.
