One more job, and the van's back on the road.
Nothing happening when I try to use the w/ washers. I've had problems with slime in the system, but before I get working on that can someone please remind me: should the motor be making some kind of noise, even though no fluid is coming out? I'm suspicious that there's no whirring sound, and wondering if that's where I should start. I haven't checked fuses etc (the sun went down).

I'm sure the pump makes a noise, *remembers back to when jets were iced up*

Thanks all, it turned out to be the contacts on the motor itself. I just unplugged it, plugged it back in, and it was fine.

Same problem on mine. Did a few spurts then no more. I suspect switch contact now after reading this.
Cheers

Very easy to check, just tie the lever to the steering wheel, to activate the switch, attach a paper clip to the crocodile clip on one of those 12V test lamps, and insert it and the prong at the other end of the test lamp into the connector that you've removed from the pump. Probably best to make sure that the paper clip and prong don't touch when they're in the connector.
But maybe just unplugging and replugging the connector onto the pump will do it.
