preping changing over the trailing arms, so i thought that i would have a go at cracking the nuts and bolts, like i said prep work. any how they dont seam to want to budge. which it what i sort of expected as they have been there 20plus years. so i may end up having to cut them off. if the heat from my blow torch dose not help.

any how like i said prep work so i phoned up tps the nuts and bolts are still avalible, but for 4no nuts and bolt they cost over £15 plus the vat. are dose any one know if they are any thing special. i an gussing so as the weight of the van is resting on them, or should i just bite the bullet and order them.

I agree, its a safety item. Bite the bullet and pay the £15. Have you changed your gearbox oil yet? If not you could use that money and still have a fiver in your pocket .....

I bit the bullet big style and bought a box of 50 bolts (plus 100 nuts and washers!!), when doing ours with a view to selling the surplus on here, just not got round to it yet......so PM me and I can send you a set, £5:00 plus P&P. They are correctly rated - 10.9 as the origional vw bolts, though IIRC 5 mm over length.

Very true ......

Inner one usually undoes, outer usually doesn't!
we cut the heads off the outer ones, then bend the bracket to get them off, knock back into place afterwards.
If you have time/inclination then grind the heads off, centre pop the remnants and drill through rather than bend the bracket to get rid of the remaining stub protruding from the bush that's holding the arm in place.
Pain in the ring piece of a job.
In 5 years I think one trailling arm has even undone for me.

when breaking the doka none moved could get off the nuts but that was it a 1mm cutting disc will fit between the bracket and arm just cut through the rubber and the the bolt quickest way to get them off VW still do the rear bushes (same as the front as far as i know) would probably go for the poly ones if i was you

The trailling arm bushes I have are Lemforder, same as VW used and cheaper.

I take it the front poly trailing arm bushes fit the rears too then Simon?
